Day Six – Romans 6

Life in the Spirit

Romans 6:12-14
12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

When we are controlled by sin, we do things because it is all we know, we rarely make the choice ourselves. We were born into sin and without Jesus, sin would be all we would ever know. But since Jesus paid the price for our sin, we have the ability to be under grace. This means when Jesus allows us to live this life to the fullest with Him. We live as dead to sin and alive in the freedom Christ gives us. 

Challenge: Read Romans 6. Take time today and thank God for the freedom of grace that is in Christ.

Day Five – Romans 5

Christ Perfect Love and Sacrifice

Romans 5:6-8
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Christ loves us dearly. No one will lay down their life for anyone, maybe a good person but Jesus came for you and me and laid down his life for us while we were sinners. The beauty of it all is the love that Christ had for us on the cross. He had each of us in mind when He made the decision to pay the ultimate price. It was a price that a morally good person, object or animal couldn’t pay. We needed Jesus to die for us. 

Challenge: Read Romans 5. There is so much to unpack from this chapter of Romans so today, read this chapter 3 times and pray on it.

Day Four – Romans 4

Hope in Hopeless Situations 

Romans 4:18-19 
18 Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!” 19 And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.

God chose Abraham to be the father of many nations but the issue was his wife couldn’t have children. The situation seemed hopeless but Abraham still believed. Hope truly exists in hopeless situations. The only time you need hope is when something is uncertain or unclear and you are not sure what the way out is. So instead of being discouraged in times of uncertainty, be encouraged to put your hope in God because he always comes through just like he did for Abraham and Sarah. 

Challenge: Read Romans 4. What uncertainty, worry, or anxiety do you currently have in your life that you can choose to put your hope in Jesus and lay it at his feet today?

Day One – Romans 1

Romans 1:16
“16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”

The Good News is the Good News, there is no reason to be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. Do you remember when you first heard the Good News? Do you remember how it changed you? Why should we be afraid to share the Good News that once saved us? As we go on this journey together for the next 16 days, remember Paul was never afraid to share the Good News of how he went from death to life in Christ. We should gladly share the Good News to others so that they may have the opportunity to experience salvation. 

Challenge: Read Romans 1. Pray and give God thanks for His sacrifice for you and be confident in sharing the Gospel to others around you.
